Here Are The Different Synthetic Upholstery Fabrics

Rayon
This is a nice fabric, most likely found in window treatments such as drapes. It absorbs water really well but can shrink easily.

Acrylic
This is a very durable material. It stains very well but is hard to clean as it will pill very easy. Most times than not a manufacturer will blend this with a natural fabric so the upholstery will hold up better.

Nylon
This fabric is most found in a carpet. It holds very well, hard to damage and wears very well. It is easily cleaned. If you are looking for a peice of upholstery for a family room with children and pets, this is it.

Olefin
This is a fabric found in commercial office buildings more times than not. It's very durable and has dye blocking stain resisting properties. However, it is very oil loving, so it's is attracted to oil and grease. As far as style this is not a fabric you'll want.

Polyester
This is often used as part as a blend. It is made from shorter lengths of fibers that are twisted together to make a bigger peice of fabric. It's very popular and found in many upholstery fabrics.

These are just a few different synthetic upholstery fabrics, there are many more. However, these are probably the most popular.
